About Discounts
A discount is a reduction in the price of a good or service. The two most common types are percent off and fixed amount off. Discounts are widely used in retail, e-commerce, and service industries to attract customers and boost sales.
Types of Discounts
- Percent Off: A percentage is subtracted from the original price. For example, 20% off a $100 item saves you $20.
- Fixed Amount Off: A fixed dollar amount is subtracted from the original price. For example, $15 off a $100 item means you pay $85.
How to Calculate
- Percent Off:
Price After = Price Before × (1 - Discount % / 100) - Fixed Amount Off:
Price After = Price Before - Discount Amount
Stackable Discounts
Some stores allow multiple discounts to be applied in sequence. For example, 20% off, then an additional 10% off the reduced price. In such cases, apply each discount step by step.
