Random Number Generator
About Random Number Generator
A random number generator (RNG) is a tool or algorithm that produces a sequence of numbers with no predictable pattern. RNGs are widely used in statistics, cryptography, simulations, gaming, and scientific research. There are two main types of random number generators:
- True Random Number Generators (TRNGs): These rely on physical phenomena such as atmospheric noise, radioactive decay, or thermal noise to generate numbers that are truly unpredictable.
- Pseudo-Random Number Generators (PRNGs): These use mathematical algorithms to produce sequences that appear random but are actually deterministic. Most computer-based RNGs, including this tool, use PRNGs for speed and reproducibility.
Random numbers are essential in sampling, simulations (such as Monte Carlo methods), randomized algorithms, cryptographic key generation, lottery draws, and more. This tool allows you to generate random integers or decimals within a specified range, control uniqueness, sorting, and decimal precision. For most applications, pseudo-random numbers are sufficient, but for cryptographic or security-critical uses, hardware-based TRNGs are recommended.
